A Word About Trauma
Trauma is at the core of much of the distress we experience, often manifesting as anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges. Trauma can take many forms, from significant, life-altering events (big “T” traumas) to more subtle, ongoing experiences (little “t” traumas). It is a response to a deeply distressing or disturbing event that overwhelms your nervous system and natural ability to cope.
Trauma may stem from neglect; physical, emotional or sexual abuse; abuse of power; loss; betrayal; pain; or any situation where you felt hopeless. Its effects can ripple through your life, impacting your identity, relationships, sense of self-worth, and even your body image or spirituality. By addressing the underlying trauma, we can begin the process of healing, restoring balance, and helping you move toward a more peaceful and fulfilling life.
